Me and you, we're different,
Don't always see eye to eye,
You go left, I go right,
And sometimes we even fight...

The weather at the beach was as appaling as you could expect in the cold, wet months of winter, and Epilogue was unfortunate enough to be trapped in it herself. The deep reds and crimsons that made up her stunning pelt were standing on end as she tried desperatly to keep herself warm, whilst she squinted her eyes slightly to keep the salty water from blowing over the sea into her brown eyes. Winter. It was a horrible time indeed, in her opinion, and the warm times of summer simply couldn't come soon enough. She was freezing half to death, and wasn't in the mood for battling against the elements to go nowhere in particular. It would be easy to assume - And indeed, she would have thought the same not too long ago - That an Alphess would have hundreds upon hundreds of jobs to do, and times like these would be wasting those valuable seconds. How very wrong they were! Epilogue was thoroughly bored with hanging around in a dark and unihibited cinema, and it seemed altogether pointless to lead a pack in which no one lived. She wanted to make it to the big time, become one of those grand old packs that had members bursting out of every corner, silence and stillness never settling over the bustling activity. It warmed her to think of the hope that one day her own home would be like that, but she knew she would have to work hard for it. Lucky breaks didn't come around all that often, especially with the hard life of a stray already weighing you down and threatening to outwit you at any moment. Epilogue herself was an optimist for the most part, but she was still realistic. Death was a common occurence out here in the streets, and you had to keep your wits about you if you wanted to last a second. And indeed she did, especially with her new pack under her wing.

She longed for someone to take an interest, for someone to come on by and say they wanted to join up, but things like that didn't just happen. Looking up, Epilogue tried to look for any other signs of life but she couldn't see anyone else, only the grey cloudy sky, drizzling of course with the standard light and annoying rain. She shivered, and started to walk more in the direction of the cliff-like structure that led up to the roads above, where the humans were walking around and driving in their loud and scary cars. Epilogue wasn't one of these dogs who hated humans for no reason, because she didn't see the point. They hadn't done anything to her, and she hadn't done anything to them. It was all part of the deal in life - You made peace where you could, or you'd wind up in an early grave. Especially when loads of vicious and angry canines were after your blood needlessly anyway. Sighing, she sat down uncomfortably on the wet sand, and looked out over the sea. Wild, grey waters spun around in the winds, and waves crashed noisily against the land. Needless to say, no humans were down here today, as they too enjoyed summer, like Epilogue. Continuing to sit in such a manner, the Catahoula Leopard Dog was simply still, waiting for something to happen...

That don't mean that I won't need a friend,
You and me, we're in this 'till the end,
I think we're on our way,
Through all the lows and highs, got you by my side...

Escape! The urge to run had overtaken him and he had dug himself free of his owners a good few months ago, yet there was still an unnerving sense of home that called to him - a feeling of companionship that he could not quite shake off. The life of a stray, he knew, would only be something for him if he was with others, and at the moment he was alone.

Alone--the silence was suffocating him, perhaps not literally but metaphorically. Comforts of the city gave him little joy and he only got the faint spark of happiness when he came across another dog, be the creature tame or on its own like him. Attempts to befriend other canines had been turned down in favour of misjudgement and apprehension and that old-age law of tooth and claw that sometimes the Hovawart did not appreciate.

Okay, so a lot of the time he didn't like that law. Still, he'd learn to live with it. The soft roar of the waves rocketed the male from his senses and he stared forlornly at the sea in front of him and at the waves that crashed against the shore every few seconds. They were free, the lucky buggers, and he did envy them. All they did was rise and fall with the rhythm of the sea, and here he was, finding it difficult to go along with the flow of the city.

The sand was weak beneath his paws, caving in at every step he took. Atlas was not amused by having to pick his feet up a lot and having to take every step carefully and then dart forward in order to stop himself from sinking--he was not used to the sand. The dog had grown accustomed to grass and tarmac and concrete, so in an eager attempt to explore, he had landed himself here. Wonderful.

Scanning the shore took a while as the creature waited for something to happen. His keen eyesight was an added bonus as it enabled him to see quite far, if only in a few shades of colour - not that he knew any better. Standing tall and proud on the wet sand (he had moved in order to see if this sand was any better, and it was), he scoured the terrain in search of something - anything - and then he found it.

Life! A strangled yelp escaped his muzzle and the black-and-tan beast began to run at a full on pace, whining and barking happily as the shape grew bigger - and at a rapid speed, too. Soon he was heading towards another dog, and he was going so fast that he found it difficult to slow down, therefore stumbling and falling into the spray of the waves.

Darn. Struggling to get to his feet, Atlas dashed out from under the walls of water, coughing and spluttering, shaking his body vigorously in an attempt to dry himself. He looked rather sheepish as he approached his fellow canine, sitting down beside it (or rather her, or so he thought he saw...) and clearing his throat slightly.
"Hullo there! You look rather loney; I'm Atlas!"

I think we're on our way,
To better days, better days, oh,
Lets say we turn the page, Move on from all the times should have laughed not cried,
What is there more to say? I think that we're on our way...

The sight and smell of another dog fast approaching was pretty much invisible to the oblivious Epilogue, and so needless to say as she turned her pretty head the vision of another racing towards her was quite shocking. Almost standing up in surprise, she managed to keep her cool and steady her quickly beating heart as her eyes fluttered wider for a second, before she caught her breath and sat down firmly again, trying to regain her Alpha-like pride that could be sensed from a distance from her. At least, that's what she assumed. The beginnings of a smile started to creep across her face as she realised at least that she might make a new friend from this fast and rapid meeting, but only time would tell if the other stranger was friendly or not. Slowly but surely, his scent started to get more defined on the wind, and soon Epilogue herself was starting to detect vital information, as most dogs could do from a simple smell. She knew the stranger was a male, and that he had no pack scent on him. But this wasn't nearly enough to go by if you started to want to know things like what their personality was like, and even what their name was. Her eyes shining brightly, the windy and rainy weather seemed to be stopping, even though the cold was still chilling her to the bone. Managing a smile, she showed shining teeth as the other dog skidded to a halt before her, stuttering out a quick introduction. She liked the looks of him, and at least he was friendly - She could certainly tell that much.

Atlas... It was a nice name. Tilting her russet head to one side, Epilogue looked over him quickly before smiling even wider. Yes, he seemed nice indeed. "A good observation, Atlas. Yes, I suppose the life of an Alphess can get a little lonesome sometimes..." She smiled mischeviously. "Yes, Epilogue, Alphess of the Cani Liberi at your service." She continued, wondering what sort of reaction she would get. Some dogs didn't care. Some dogs were amazed. Some even got angry. She couldn't read this dogs mind, even though many canines thought themselves experts at defining personalities, she didn't delude herself in thinking so. "Nice to meet you, anyway. You here for a reason?" She continued, deciding she liked the dog before her. Maybe he would want to join her own pack one day... It was a nice thought indeed... But would it become reality?

Together, we'll weather,
Many storms as family,
That bond is forever,
It can take most anything...

For some reason, Atlas was quite surprised that his approach wasn't rebuked with a scoff and a flash of teeth. From what he had encountered so far, arrogance and rudeness were all that went through the heads of most homeless dogs, and so he was quite pleased to discover that not all strays held the same amount of nastiness as other dogs he had come into contact with.

'A good observation, Atlas.' At the mention of his name, the Hovawart's tail wagged ever-so-slightly and he let his tongue loll from his mouth in a content manner, watching her with something about him that could almost be described as a shy aura. 'Epilogue, Alphess of the Cani Liberi at your service.' The male did a double-take--Alphess? He had some vague idea of what that was; it was like his old master and mistress who had told him what to do all the time, or so he thought. Whoa.

He grinned loosely and stood up, shaking free sand from his coat and then falling still again. Waves crashing against the shore caused the male to glance from the sea and then back to Epilogue. He was silent for a minute, thinking about why he was on the beach in due to her question about - well, rather obviously - why he was there. He didn't know... exploring, adventure, you know, all that jazz.

"I'm just wandering about," He replied somewhat modestly, attempting to come up with a reasonable answer. "You know, just checking things out and looking for somewhere to stay. Being on my own is quite lonely." Atlas said the last bit almost wistfully, keeping the miserable tone out of his voice and quite at bay. He stretched loosely, uttering a simple yawn before turning to the female. "And what about you? Why are you here?"

The love I feel for you grows every day,
The more we get to learn from our mistakes,
I think we're on our way,
Through all the lows and highs, need you by my side...

Still smiling, Epilogue couldn't hold her ears back from perking up slightly as her new friend declared he was pretty lonely himself, too. Yes, she considered him a friend now - He obviously wasn't violent, and that made him good enough in her books. But if he was looking for a home, which she was starting to presume he was, then maybe he would even want to join the ranks of the Cani Liberi? It was an attractive thought indeed. Epilogue had decided long ago that a system would work with her when accepting members - Seeing as how ranks like the Head Warrior, Head Medic and all that were still open, new members would be immediatly assigned high ranks like these. If they didn't prove good enough for them, then they would be moved down into a more regular position. But this way, it meant that there were no empty spaces and more importantly no groups without leaders. Someone to guide and rule over was particulary important in this dog's books, and if Atlas was looking for a home, he had the option here and now to go from a nobody to someone very important in an instant.

"Well, if you're looking for a place to stay, you can always come to join my pack. It's pretty much only me at the moment, but there are some vital ranks that need desperate filling. Would a position as someone in charge of a small group of dogs seem appealing to you? I need someone to help manage and control a certain fleet, and I suppose any new member has an equal chance of aquiring that position." As she ended, she hoped he hadn't taken it the wrong way and had assumed she wanted him to be an Alpha or anything. Epilogue thought the other dog charming, but she needed to fall desperatly in love before she would let another come rule by her side. It was an extremely important decision to be made, and she knew from past experiances that sometimes the dogs you thought were trustworthy could just disappear into thin air. Smiling again, she spoke in response to his question. "Nothing, really. I suppose looking for new pack members is one of the reasons, and maybe I would have the honor of achieving my goal today?"

Singing I think we're on our way,
To better days, better days,
Let's say we turn the page, move on from all the times should have laughed not cried,
What is there more to say? I think that we're on our way...

'Well, if you're looking for a place to stay, you can always come to join my pack.' Atlas peered at her slightly, wondering if she was just having him on. He was silent for a moment, still peering at her with some uncertainty and letting her words fill his brain and his mind like a sponge before fully analysing and going over what she meant. 'Would a position as someone in charge of a small group of dogs seem appealing to you? I need someone to help manage and control a certain fleet.' Well, that did sound awfully appealing to him...

In all honesty, the Hovawart was interested. He mulled over the offer in silence, starting to wag his tail as it occured to him that she was kind of inviting him into her pack and that if he accepted, he wouldn't have to be alone anymore. No more mooching about because he didn't have company--no more whining pitifully at humans for food; he wouldn't be alone! He'd have company for the first time in months - or quite possibly a year, but he didn't really know how long he'd been on his own for.

'Maybe I would have the honor of achieving my goal today?' The male inclined his head ever-so-slightly, rising from where he'd been sitting and attempting to look half-regal, although he did fail at that. He yawned lightly, glancing out to sea and then back at Epilogue again. A pack all of his own... with others in it that were just like him. If he let her achieve her goal, she'd be helping him achieve his, too. It was like 'Scratch my back and I'll scratch yours' and he did like that prospect a lot.

"That does sound appealing to me," Atlas answered with brutal honesty, his eyes lighting up, "And I'd be happy to join you. One is the loneliest number, right?" He ended it on a sort of teasing note, his tail wagging vigorously now. He had a home!
